Wild Earth Farm and Sanctuary is proud to host our third Vegan Permaculture Design Certificate Course, at our 200 acre farm in Eastern Kentucky at the foothills of Appalachia. Along with the founders of Wild Earth--Heather Patrick and Joe Kilcoyne--the team teaching this class has decades of ecological vegan living and experience to share.
The internationally-recognized, 72-hour Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) course yields the Permaculture Design Certificate. The course serves as an introduction to permaculture design as developed by concept co-creator Bill Mollison, which opens the door to further practice, work and advanced education.
This course will include classroom time and hands-on experience.

Featured Instructors:
Graham Burnett founded Spiralseed in 2001 and is the author of Permaculture: A Beginners Guide and The Vegan Book of Permaculture. He teaches permaculture and works with projects and organizations including Comic Relief, Capital Growth, Bioregional, Naturewise, OrganicLea, Birmingham Decoy, Trust Links, Green Adventure, the Vegan Organic Network, Thrive, Ars Terra (Los Angeles), Ekosense EcoVillage (Croatia) as well as a number of Transition Town initiatives. As well as cultivating his own garden and allotments, Graham contributes to publications as diverse as Positive News, The Sunday Times, Permaculture Magazine, Permaculture Activist, New Leaves, The Raven, Growing Green, Funky Raw, The Vegan and The Idler.
William Faith completed his certification in permaculture design at the Ecovillage Training Center at The Farm in Summertown, TN in 2006, shortly after which he co-founded Ars Terra, a sustainable homestead project in Palmdale, CA, where he taught several permaculture courses and workshops before moving to Chicago, where he co-founded the Chicagoland Permaculture Guild in 2012, and has given many presentations on permaculture at colleges, universities, eco/green fairs and festivals and private events, also giving several radio interviews on the subject. 2015 heralded the birth of Genius Loci Permaculture, a full-service Design, Build and Education firm.
Assistant Instructors:
Bob Hattier is a NABCEP Certified PV Installation ProfessionalTM and Master Electrician who has a dedicated passion for renewable energy. He has worked on systems in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Washington and Costa Rica. An IREC Master TrainerTM, he develops and teaches courses for The Midwest Renewable Energy Association and IBEW Local 134. Bob serves on the board of directors for the MREA and NABCEP. Additionally he is the owner of Alternative Currents, Inc. a renewable energy design and installation company based in Chicago. Bob holds a Permaculture Design Certificate from Spiralseed.
Heather Patrick is Co-Founder of Wild Earth Farm and Sanctuary. Heather's background in cultural anthropology led her to spend years abroad, studying organic and permaculture practices throughout Africa, Asia, Australia, and Central and South America. In the U.S. she completed the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association Apprenticeship program on one of America's first veganic farm and seed saving project, and went on to farm her family's beloved 40 acre homestead. She founded the Kentucky Vegan Families Network and runs Vegans in the Bluegrass, bringing vegans, families, and activists in the state together and started Farm Animals Sanctuaries Unite! an online community of nonprofit animal sanctuaries. She also runs our Sisters of Wild Earth Program. Before founding Wild Earth Sanctuary, Heather was Chicago Director for Mercy For Animals and active with economic justice nonprofits. She holds a permaculture certificate with Spiralseed and teaches vegan permaculture and veganic composting in the local community. Heather is excited to be building a program to link the animal protection, environmental, and social justice movements and likes to spend her days getting her hands dirty in Wild Earth's permaculture gardens and daily caring for rescued farmed animals.
Joe Kilcoyne holds permaculture design certificates from Midwest Permaculture and from Spiralseed. He has also attended courses by Dave Jacke and Jodi Roebuck. He is a Co-founder of Wild Earth Farm and Sanctuary. Joe is an outdoor adventurer who strives to build common ground and understanding between different walks of life. He believes plants are a major part in this work to repair ourselves and the earth. He can often be found walking around in the fields and forests discussing voluntary relationships and a future based on community building and joy. He has also helped co-run Second Wind CSA, a 65-share CSA and market vegetable farm business located in the Hudson Valley that is not only certified organic, but also has been no-till for over 20 years. Joe runs business projects at Wild Earth Farm, LLC.
Anna Durrett is a farmer, book lover, and herb enthusiast. She has helped co-run Second Wind CSA, a 65-share CSA and market vegetable farm business located in the Hudson Valley that is not only certified organic, but also has been no-till for over 20 years. She has worked on community and personal gardens. Before becoming a full-time plant person, she worked at Little River Research & Design, where they conceptualize and build hands-on river models for education and research. Anna holds a Permaculture Design Certificate from Spiralseed. She took part in a permaculture teacher training with Pandora Thomas and Lisa DePiano. Her favorite plants are dandelions, maypops, and chestnuts.
Cost: $1250 ($250 deposit) This includes the 12-day course (1 rest day), 3 vegan meals per day, and onsite camping.
Payment:
Option 1: Send a deposit by mailing a $250 check made out to "Wild Earth Farm" to 101 Eli Sparks Road, Irvine, Kentucky 40336. Email WildEarthFarm@gmail.com with the subject "Registration Notice" and let us know you mailed the check. Include your name, email address, and phone number. Once received, we will confirm with you your registration and send you a welcome letter with all the details for your stay with us, and how to take care of the balance.
Option 2: Send $260 ($250 deposit + $10 processing fee) via paypal to WildEarthFarm@Gmail.com. Send us an email notifying us of your registration with your name, email address, and phone number. By following Option 1, you avoid the processing fee.
Option 3: Send full course fee by following the same instructions above. If postmarked by March 1, 2017 you can claim the early bird discount and make the check out for $1200. The early bird applies only to full tuition payments. If using paypal to send the whole tuition amount, add $35 for the processing fee.
Option 4: Review The 8 Forms of Capital as taught in permaculture. This article from Appleseed Permaculture will give you a great start to understand the possibilities. Present us an idea based on these forms of capital. It can be a part of or the whole tuition fee (except the deposit). We reserve the right to not accept and/or submit a revised suggestion. It takes a great deal of our own resources to put courses on, so it must be worthwhile for all parties. Note: The deposit is due in cash/check. The balance can then be taken care of by using the 8 forms of capital.
Cancellation Policy: The deposit of $250 is non-refundable. You will be refunded any amount over $250 that you have paid at the time of cancellation. The deposit can be applied to a course in the future.
If the course is cancelled due to low enrollment, a full refund will be issued. We make a decision one month prior to the course starting(June 16,2017) based on the amount of registered students as to wether the course has enough students to make it financially possible, and to ensure there are enough students to create the dynamic needed for student interaction and learning experiences.

Drawing from their combined experience and Italian American heritage, they are committed to providing nourishing, plant-based meals that promote health and wellness, and use the freshest seasonal, organic and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
